Acetaminophen dosage

The recommended dosage of acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol, depends on the age and weight of the person taking it.

For adults and children over 12 years old, the usual recommended dose of acetaminophen is 325 to 1000 milligrams (mg) every 4 to 6 hours, up to a maximum of 4000 mg in a 24-hour period.

For children between 2 and 11 years old, the recommended dose of acetaminophen depends on their weight. The general guideline is to give 10 to 15 mg/kg every 4 to 6 hours, up to a maximum of 5 doses in a 24-hour period. It’s important to follow the dosing instructions on the medication label or as directed by a healthcare professional.

It’s important to not exceed the recommended dosage, as taking too much acetaminophen can be harmful to the liver. If you have any questions or concerns about the appropriate dose of acetaminophen for you or your child, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional.
